The Maitake mushroom is packed in nutrients, including antioxidants that protect cells from ‘free radical’ damage
The maitake mushroom is traditionally associated with health, vitality, and longevity. The word ‘maitake’ in Japanese translates to dancing, which is how the fungi got their name. Due to the mushrooms’ amazing therapeutic capabilities, people danced with joy when they discovered it in the wild.
The maitake mushroom can be seen growing in the Autumn months. It may be seen near the base of Oak, Elm, and Maple trees, in wild regions of Japan, China, and North America. Interestingly, the maitake mushroom can even be harvested at home, however it will not grow as well as it does in the wild.
This type of mushroom is known as an adaptogen, these are what are purported to help the body cope with mental and physical stress, and also help to balance out imbalanced physiological systems.
The Maitake mushroom is packed in nutrients, including antioxidants that protect cells from ‘free radical’ damage (Kozarski et al., 2015), Beta-glucans that lower cardiovascular disease risk (Lin et al., 2010), and Vitamin B. They are also low-sodium, low-calorie and cholesterol-free. There is 200mg of Maitake in our Irish Botanica product.
